Chris Snaith's story embodies courage, resilience, and an unwavering determination to confront challenges head-on. Being diagnosed with a brain tumor, he faced an arduous medical journey that included three craniotomies, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Despite these extensive treatments, doctors ultimately conveyed that there were no further options available.
Chris, a steadfast SAFC supporter from Sunderland, England, refused to let his illness define him. Together with his American wife, Nikki he embarked on an international journey to find advanced neuro-oncology centers dedicated to GBM treatments. His determination led him to Bower Oncology Center at UCLA, where he received care from Timothy Cloughesy, MD and his esteemed team. Initially, the treatment yielded promising results, achieving an impressive tumor size reduction of over 75%. However, this respite was fleeting as the tumor reemerged and progressed rapidly. Chris passed away on April 9, 2007. His journey highlights the urgent need for continued research and support in neuro-oncology, inspiring a collective commitment to progress and breakthroughs that can transform lives.

The loss of Chris was particularly devastating, occurring just three months before Nikki, welcomed their twins, Liam and Lucy. Amidst this deep sorrow, Chris's legacy lives on through the unwavering dedication of his parents, Dave and Kath, as well as his sister, Stephanie. Fueled by a profound dedication to honor his memory, Dave spearheaded the creation of the Chris Snaith Foundation (CSF), a grassroots organization made up of Chris's family and friends from across the globe. The foundation is dedicated to organizing fundraising events aimed at supporting research and advocacy for families facing similar hardships. To date, CSF has raised over $100,000, which has been allocated to UCLA Neuro-Oncology research, the Northern Brainwave Appeal, and various patient support initiatives.
Tragically, Dave, a former headteacher and educational advisor, passed away very suddenly from a stroke in September 2021. However, the memories of these two inspiring individuals, along with the remarkable fundraising efforts, now rest in the hands of Liam and Lucy Snaith, who are dedicated to continuing the fight.
